Massage Benefits for Arthritis

Massage may help to provide short term relief from arthritis pain.

The benefits of massage are thought to be:

  • Ease muscular tension

  • Improve circulation therefore reducing swelling

  • Aid in better sleep

  • Improve immune function

  • Endorphins which reduce pain are increased

  • Decrease stress hormones and depression

Don’t just think of massage as only being good for backs. Massage can be beneficial for arthritis in other joints such as shoulders, knees, hips and hands.

Massage won’t improve joint damage and inflammation within the joint but many people find that reducing muscular tension can ease their pain and reduce the stiffness. We see many people who benefit from receiving a regular massage allowing them to have more enjoyment in life and be able to do the things they want to such as better sleep, less pain whilst at work, play sport.

You will be asked if the pressure is ok and it is important to communicate with your massage therapist as everybody is different - the goal is to get you feeling better.
